More Than Just Walls and Furniture: The Resonance Interiors Story

My design journey began long before I received any formal training. It started with an idyllic childhood, exploring the woods and fields of rural Ohio, dreaming of far-off places and spaces. For as long as I can remember, I have been influenced by the environments that were the backdrop to my life. Spaces, furnishings, art, and even clutter all covertly impacted how I experienced my surroundings. At 11, for my birthday, I requested a bedroom makeover, which my parents obliged, with my dad and grandfather executing my vision. I was quite possibly the only middle schooler who would use his allowance to purchase Martha Stewart Living, combing the pages repeatedly. Constantly rearranging furniture, shelved decor, and my ever-changing "gallery wall" of posters—design was, for me, innate and ever-present.

Discovering My Passion

My passion for design was further ignited the summer before I started high school when I had the opportunity to participate during the construction of our new home. Looking back, I realize that's where my fascination and desire for design began to take root. I loved selecting materials with the builder, envisioning the finishes in the spaces, and pouring over plans and sourcing options. To my mother's credit, my input mattered on everything from carpeting to trim and baseboards. I was allowed to specify color palette, tile selection and layout, as well as fixtures and hardware for my bathroom. I collaborated on furniture and lighting selections, as well as placement and decor. In hindsight, my passion for design came so naturally that I didn’t realize not everyone enjoys these pursuits!

The Hospitality Influence

While my love of design didn't directly lead me to a 15-year career as a hospitality executive, it was during this time, traveling and managing luxury hotels and resorts, that my design taste and sensibilities were further deepened. This period instilled in me a deep appreciation for the art of hospitality and the importance of creating welcoming and comfortable spaces for guests. My personal love of entertaining also played a significant role, informing my design choices and passion for creating spaces that foster connection and celebration.

The Meaning of Home

But it was my time as a stay-at-home dad that truly solidified my understanding of the meaning of home. Raising my son while managing two households and navigating the demands of family life taught me the value of organization, functionality, and creating a sense of calm amidst the chaos. I learned to appreciate the beauty of everyday moments and the importance of creating spaces that nurture and support family connections. I realized I wasn’t the only parent feeling time-starved yet desiring a pulled-together home that was reflective of our best lives. I knew that I could use my passion for elevating the experience of home through design to be of service to others.

The Birth of Resonance Interiors

Throughout my personal and professional journey, I've consistently been drawn to design that's both stylish and approachable, blending casual elegance with a focus on functionality and warmth. I believe that good design should be accessible to everyone, regardless of budget or lifestyle. It doesn’t take much to be intentional about how a space should greet you, or the feelings it may evoke. There is no one path, but rather a unique path for each person, family, and dwelling. It’s the combination of flow, placement, and material selections that inform the vision, and a customized composition for each client is the goal.

That's why I returned to school to formalize my design education, earning a certification in Interior Design from the Boston Architectural College. I wanted to combine my natural talents and passion for design with the knowledge and skills needed to create truly bespoke spaces for my clients.

And so, Resonance Interiors was born.
